Hiking Day 2: Les Contamines to Les Chapieux
This 12.4-mile point-to-point trail is one of the longer stages of the TMB. This hike leads over 2 high passes on a long, steady ascent, followed by a steep descent to les Chapieux. Estimated hike time is 7-8 hours.
Les Chapieux
Located on a remote part of the Tour du Mont Blanc, Les Chapieux is a small hamlet surrounded by steep hills and inhabited by shepherds and their goats and sheep. In winter it is cut off by snow, but in Spring becomes a favourite destination for ski tourers. In the summer it is an essential stop over on the Tour du Mont Blanc offering a unique atmosphere owing to its remote feel.
